View Full Version : How not to fuck up the forums

LG

Okay, I've been here a while now. Longer than most. I've made friends, I've had some fun, I've shouted some obscenities and, yes, I even jerked off at some of the pics (call it human weakness).

Some things have been rattling around in my brain lately and I wanted to say them. Please hear me out first before ignoring me.

My advice is mostly directed at the guys (including myself- I don't always take my own advice) but some is also directed at the girls. I have a few words for newbies, but please- all of you- don't take any of this personally. I love you all. Just not today.

And you might say "Who is LG to pass on advice?". Well, truthfully I'm just another wanker (literally, but aren't we all?). But I like to think I've been here long enough to know a thing or two and to be allowed the occasional rant. I promise I won't make another for a while...

Words of advice

The only new thread you can reasonably create as a rookie with 10 or fewer posts under your belt without being seen as a fuckwit is a thread where you introduce yourself.

If you have pictures to post, find an existing thread to put them in or- if you're creating a new thread- give it a theme (themes with the word "cock" seem to be popular around here) and stick all your new pictures there. Do not flood the forum with new threads.

Don't ask stupid questions. Transsexuals do not want a second penis, they cannot have children and they are not superhuman.

Please try to make sense when you type. Read your stuff before posting. Is it a pile of gobbledygook? If yes, then don't post it. Don't forget paragraphs and punctuation and try to learn the difference between "they're", "their" and "there". Pedantic as it may seem, it'll help make your stuff more readable. And it will help prevent me from getting pissed off when I read it.

If you seriously have the urge to post a picture of your own dick, have the decency to do it in one of the appropriate threads (the ones where other guys have posted their cocks) and do not just stick it in a random thread.

If your dick is big, don't remind the guys about it and don't keep showing off to the girls.

If you've been with a tgirl or two you don't need to tell us. If you're friends with them, don't name names, unless you want them to stop being your friends. There's few feelings worse than the way one feels when their trust is betrayed.

Do not call the girls ugly or annoying. Many of us find them attractive and you don't know them well enough to judge their character. Respect the girls and you will earn their respect too.

Respect the guys, especially the mods and older posters. We've been here a while so we must be doing something right. Take our advice when we give it to you.

Don't call post op vaginas 'disgusting'. There are post op girls here we happen to think very highly of and, secondly, many girls long to have a vagina. Being cruel to them is a disgusting thing to do.

Don't try and bump up your post count with a slew of LOL comments and smilies. You may make a jillion vacuous posts in a week, but respect comes with quality, not quantity.

Don't be a troll. Some people post nothing for sometime, then join in a discussion just to cause trouble.

Don't just cut and paste- have an opinion on things too. But be willing to listen to what others have to say as well.

Spread your time around the forums. Don't just stay in the Sports section for example. If that's the only thing you want to discuss, you're in the wrong place.

Don't judge on appearances. Sure Moni was hot, but she was also a bitch. When she was here, some guys defended her despite the obvious fact that she was a screwloose scummy slapper, just because they fancied her.

Some girls are worth defending, others are not. Don't let your dick tell your head what to do.

To the girls: not all of us are assholes. Give us a chance before you pass judgement.

Be nice to LG today. He woke up on the wrong side of the bed, it seems.

What you choose to accept is up to you. You may think it's a pile of old shite. You may feel (quite rightly, I think) that this should become a sticky thread. You may even think it's the word of God. Me, I think the above are fair comments.

I've said what I wanted to say for now. Your comments, promises of undying love or even words of abuse are welcome.

Have a good day

LG

Well said, LG! Here's a couple more:

Learn to use the shift key and avoid typing in all caps, your effort will be appreciated.

Use the Search, Luke! Yeah, it's a bit cumbersome, but try to avoid asking the same old question for the 13,456th time by seeing if it's been asked before.

Please don't use avatars exceeding the forum's specs (as shown in your profile), and learn to reduce those 10megapixel images to a size that fits on the average 21" monitor.

Be nice to LG, he woke up on the wrong side of the bed again. ;)

... Not to beat a dead horse, but we have a hu-u-u-u-u-ge problem with "your" and "you're" in here also. Huge. I can excuse someone where English is a second language to them, but Jesus, for the rest of you that stuff is something you should have mastered by the forth grade.
And let's not forget the three rule that many in here violate: Never, NEVER utilize more than three punctuation marks (!!!)(???)(...), particularly the latter ellipses, to try to add emphasis to something. It's overkill beyond three (listening JohnnyWalkerBlackLabel?). We need to practice conserving our punctuation marks, people. ...Got that ?!

Yes, I'm being anal, but so friggin' what? Cover splitting hairs in the next set of suggestions.

I quite agree, Real, but then again I have a Master's degree in English. I like being playful with the language, so long as the intended meaning is conveyed (with allowances for interpretation). Ellipsis indicate omission, not emphasis....................................

................................I wish people would learn that simple rule. ;)

(Speaking of anal, however, I must say I never attended "forth" grade; that must've been the accelerated learning program that pushed one "forth.")

Yes, as far as ellipsis go, I know they primarily are used to indicate omission, but I was actually thinking about and taking a backhand slap at JWBL and his topic thread headings. His topic headings at times seem contradictory to me. ...I like to use ellipsis to indicate an afterthought to a main point, provide continuity to a previous point or post, or just to trail off and allow the reader to follow up with his/her own thoughts.

On the "forth" thing, I just fucked up! I've been hanging out at two TS web sites of late that are heavily frequented by women from the UK, and I have to wonder whether their spelling of commonly used English terms is causing me to rebel ("colours",etc) of sorts. :) ...It's still early for me out here on the west coast also.

I don't consider myself an English Major, because I'm not. I do, however, communicate well. I applaud you for you education, but not your condescending attitude. I went to the University of Viet Nam, and degreed in two areas of study (both of which I am very good at). The first is in the Art of Partying and the second, the Art of Killing.

My suggestion to you is this; Live with your dissatisfaction in everyone else without your obvious English prowess. I am always at your service to compare degrees.

Thank you! That is precisely right. An' rilly, I don't mind playin' wit' the language at all, so long, as I said, one's "intended meaning is conveyed (with allowances for interpretation)." I leave to the author what that intended meaning may be, but I also leave it to the author to clearly state that meaning if s/he intends me to comprehend what s/he wrote.

Likewise, as I know Realgirls4me understood, I was just funnin' with him over the spelling of "forth." Nice point on British spelling conventions though. Back in the early 19th century whilst compiling the first true American English dictionary, Noah Webster deliberately broke form with the Brits over many spelling conventions, which were historically quite new in Britain at the time as well. Thus, we Yanks got "color" and the Queen's subjects got "colour" (though some of us resisted to a point; you'll find many a "theatre" and "centre" here in New England).

LG
06-07-2007, 11:14 PM
Jesus, do we have to put smilies on all these posts just to make it clear we're kidding?
The correct spellings are colour, flavour, centre and so on. I'm not going to argue, but the English gave the world the English language and they're the ones who should decide how it is to be spelled. :D

Another thing I never comment on is "I could care less". The correct expression is "I couldn't care less". If you could care less it means you actually do care a little, but if you couldn't care less then it means you don't give a fuck about this. Of course maybe Americans couldn't care less about this. Some say "both are acceptable". Well, they're not. One is clearly wrong.

Also -everyone- please don't say "the proof is in the pudding" (the proof of the pudding is in the eating). English people also say it wrong and it pisses me of (I think George Carlin wrote about this once). The proof is not in the pudding- the flour might be in the pudding, and the raisins, the sugar, the spices, but not the proof, fercryingoutloud!

English is my second language, but even I don't muddle up these things.

But let's not talk about English...I still remember that massive, pointless argument everyone had over spelling ages ago. Let's just talk about how we can improve these forums.

Apart from that, my mood is improving.

CorvetteDude inadvertently posted another good guideline:

Don't bother with the bone fides - no one cares.

Granted, typing that you can kill a man with a matchstick at 40 paces may make you feel better, but for the casual reader coming across it as a response to something just makes the poster seem like a tool.

LG

Okay, apart from getting people to improve their English, any other ideas?

I have another two: One is kind of related.

- The official language of these boards is English. If your English is not good enough, that is okay- we won't laugh. If you cannot express yourself in English and have to throw in the occasional French or German word then that is fine. If you use a relatively well-known foreign language word or phrase to describe something that cannot be expressed so well in English, that is all acceptable. But holding whole conversations within a thread in a foreign language marks you out as an asshat, especially if you you are using that language to insult the other person and particularly if do not know that language and have to resort to babelfish or google-translate in order to come up with what you intend to write. Use the PM function or yahoo messenger to communicate and quit bothering the rest of us.

- If you want to quote a previous post, limit it to the last one or two posts. Otherwise the thread will become overlong and your post will look like this:

That's just my two centsYour two cents aren't worth a pennyOh yeah?Yeah!Oh really? Are you on something?Whaddayamean?Guys, break it up!Oh yeah? Well fuck you too!

Hmm...

What about when the validity, identity, or realism of a "girl" is in question?

One that posts fake pics and creates fake websites?

And is found falsifying shit all over the intrawebs, then pretending it all never happened and bask in the cock hungry glory of HA for the saps that dont know any better?

Then spam the board to try and get attention? did any of that fuck up the board?

Did I fuck it up by calling her/him/whatever out at every turn?

Am I a bad person because Kelly wants to make me puke every time I see her screen name knowing what I know?

Am I a bad person because peggy's incessant posturing makes me feel the same way?

Am I a bad person because I dont give a fuck what the answer is and will continue to post and call out ignorant and fake bullshit where I see it?

Eh whatever. I'll do what I do and get banned if need be. But - I don't attack the innocent.

I'm still waiting for the fight club forum.

I like Peggy. I agree, her posts are quite long, but most of what she says makes sense to me. I don't think she's just posturing. I think it's just her way of expressing herself, and I would never knock that.

As for Kelly, I've tried to avoid getting involved. I really don't know where she finds the time to make 33 posts a day, but- in truth- if you don't like it, just don't read her posts. Did she post fake pics? Apparently so. Does she spam the boards? I'd call 33 posts a day spamming, so yes, I suppose she does. Is she just trying to get attention? Possibly. Do I care? No. I have nothing against her, but can't say I dislike her either.

In any case, my point referred to girls that have experienced pretty vicious attacks from some assholes of late. Richierich26 got himself banned for just that- because he came here and spewed out 100 posts worth of bile (in just one day) at the girls and the guys who defended them. A few other posters have done so and not all have been banned.

I think girls like Jen and Hara deserve better than to be harassed by assholes. To me, Hara is one of the sweetest girls around- I imagine she walks around with a smile on her face whichever way life treats her, because she is a genuinely kind and gentle person. When I see some guy posting shit about her and girls like her, I will do everything I can to defend the girl and fight the fucker.

As for the Fight Club, keep it quiet. Remember the rule: "You do not talk about Fight Club".

I shall be brief, as I've got cramps, and my pussy hurts (tight jeans  )

xfiver, by no means does that make you a bad person.

LG, I truly have been enjoying your posts, love your writing style
and subject matter. In another post I will go into more detail.

As to the length of my posts, I will give my standard response;

The happiness, well being, dignity and equal rights of transwomen is
a area that is near and dear to my heart. With all things that I care about
I am very passionate.

Whether with my love life, my friendships, my occupation, all things that
I engage myself in, I do so wholeheartedly.

In all my endeavours I am thorough, pragmatic, and take them very
seriously. My presence on HA and the 'intraweb' is one such endeavour.

As I have stated on more than one occasion, I am not here to sell myself,
nor a product, but rather to be a positive influence, whether by word or
deed.

Also as I have stated, for some individuals, male and female alike, this
may be their only exposure to the topic of transgenderism. For many, the
only information that they possess is garnered from porn sites, or in
escort situations. Thus, I am attempting in my humble way to balance the
scales of knowledge.

If you or others take my commitment and resolve to the task as
arrogance, narcissism, or posturing then you have sorely missed the point.

Well, that was me being brief.

Hey, do any of you ladies have a coupla Midol, and a tampon, my cramps

I think girls like Jen and Hara deserve better than to be harassed by assholes. To me, Hara is one of the sweetest girls around- I imagine she walks around with a smile on her face whichever way life treats her, because she is a genuinely kind and gentle person. When I see some guy posting shit about her and girls like her, I will do everything I can to defend the girl and fight the fucker.

Aww..thanks LG. :P

Umm, yeah Kelly, that's a really mature response to me(especially when I've actually defended you in the past and am one of the few not to get on your case). 33 posts is your average, girl (this is viewable in your profile). It's true you haven't been posting as much- that's why your average is now 33 and no longer 40. I will refrain from making any further comments on this matter.

Thanks Peggy. And sorry to hear about your...ummm...pussy pain.

An omission worth correcting:

I already said:
The only new thread you can reasonably create as a rookie with 10 or fewer posts under your belt without being seen as a fuckwit is a thread where you introduce yourself.

But I forgot to say:
Older members- be nice to the newbies, especially if they make the effort to introduce themselves properly. If a new member posts a thread saying hello to us, the proper response would be a reply of "Welcome aboard", not a bunch of questions directed at him followed by a thread jack.

If on the other hand, a new member's first thread asks the dreaded "Am I gay?" question, or includes a picture (especially of an ugly-ass girl) that we've seen before and could have been fitted into an existing thread or requests info on some random girl, a curt reply is not entirely inappropriate.

Also, if you are a newish member asking a question or seeking info or pictures, you may not create more than two new threads where you ask the same question or request a specific type of picture. Any more and you can and should expect an older member to make fun of you. If one does, do not take this personally. It doesn't mean you're an asswipe. It doesn't even mean said older member considers you an asswipe. It merely means that you appear to be giving a good impression of an asswipe. If this is pointed out to you, let it slide and think of something else to talk about.

Thank you. I'm done ranting for now and I need a rest.

Back on LG,

Good guidelines, I am afraid my spelling and grammar isn't great,so people may have to forgive that from time to time. I also do not have a working spell checker on this PC (Don't ask it would take too long too explain why not)

I should have my new pc back on line next week though.

I might seem like I'm a little pedantic with spelling and grammar, but I'm not. I don't mind, as long as people make sense and behave. I remember always noticing that Gia Darling's spelling was atrocious but I never commented because she actually acknowledged it and also seemed to me like the sweetest, nicest girl. But if someone pisses me off and can't spell for shit, then I might well use their spelling against them.

Glad you like my guidelines. I didn't really want to rant (well...maybe a little) and maybe people have thought "Who does LG think he is?". I make some of these mistakes too- no one is perfect. But someone had to say these things. And I did it, so if there is anyone who doesn't like it- tough!

I hope people can take them on board and that they will help to improve these boards, because I like this place and intend to spend a lot more time here (that's right, fellas- you won't get rid of me this easily!).

If anyone has any ideas or rants, rant on.

And I still feel it might be good to make this a sticky. [/i]

On the spelling thang. My pet hate: it's amazing how few people spell "definitely" correctly. And, some people, please learn the difference between "to ensure" and " to insure"

Yeah...I suppose I've got used to it. People also confuse effect/affect, hear/here, were/wear/where and get confused with whether they should put an apostrophe in its/it's and tend to use the word "literally" wrongly. We all make mistakes, though.

And of course the whole ebonics thing has me reaching for online definitions every time, but it's cool because I'm learning new words. So I'm not complaining.

muhmuh pointed something out to me after I made a faux pas (since corrected muhmuh). So here is a rule and an observation.

When quoting someone's post, quote what is absolutely necessary to ensure that others will know what the fuck you're talking about. If someone posted half a page worth of stuff, try not to quote it all, especially if your actual response amounts to not much more than just an "LOL". It's fucking annoying and it pisses muhmuh off.

Both LG and muhmuh woke up on the wrong side of the bed today.

I know what you mean, man. I've been having to work late all this week.

As for my thesis, that was okay. I kind of enjoyed it. It was a pile of shit though. Still got a decent grade.

More witless wisdom...

Try to post in more than one forum or- at least- on more than one topic. If all you do is post right-wing propaganda in the Politics area, then what are you doing on a transsexual forum? If all you care about is posting your personal ad, then you're in the wrong place- there are better ways to find easy sex or drum up business by pulling in new clients. If all you do is post inane polls that bump down other people's stuff, then don't expect to be very popular.

Try and have a look at what else there is here. We have some good discussions in the General forum but also deal with some intriguing issues in the Politics forum. The Party Photos forum is also good, but try and post something more than just "OMG!!! She's so hot!!!". Then there's the Sports forum. Don't people like sports anymore?

Of course you may choose to lurk and read stuff. That's fine. But if you want to be an active member, try and post stuff worth reading and try and read stuff that other people have posted because they think it's worth reading.

Have an opinion but don't be opinionated. Having a view is fine, but bigotry is not. Caustic remarks are funny, but hurtful personal comments are more likely to create more hatred and lead to even more hurt.
Then again, you might ask "Who is LG and why has he bumped up his own thread to tell us all this?". The answer is not so important. The important thing is that I have something to say that I believe is worth reading. I have thought about it before writing it. I may not always follow my own suggestions, but I try. And I think if we all could, these (admittedly excellent) forums perhaps could be even better. And dare I say it (this is me waxing lyrical about the world again) if everyone thought of the consequences of what they were about to say and if everyone tried to open their mind a little as to the interesting things that other people had to say (are you ready?) the world could be a little better (but then again you knew I'd say that).

Sorry..I have to stop here...I might end up crying next
