Okay...well we seem to have a squillion posts a day where we're asked to pick this chick over that chick. I've been guilty of a few myself. We've had Beyonce vs Pam, Sophia vs Raquel, Thora vs Christina, Kate vs Allie, Laurel vs Hardy...oh I don't know the list goes on.

Then we've had the girls posting "Pick the best looking guy", me asking people to pick an avatar for me, the battle of the boobs, Tera vs Tia, Misha vs Elisha, a survey on George Bush's impalement, plus serious stuff like euthanasia and more...

Is it getting a bit too much? Well, it's your call.

Do you like polls because:
-they're a fun way to spend time, plus you get to ogle the pretty girls
-you didn't know who Samantha Mumba and Maria Grazia Cucinnotta were before and you're glad you found out
-they give you a chance to bump up your post count easily and all you have to write is "Monica- no contest" or "Bjork dresses like a dying swan and sings even worse"
-you like posting them
-they make you think about important issues like euthanasia and Tera Patrick's makeup
-polls kick ass!
Or do you hate polls because:
-they bump down all the dick posts
-you're here to have fun and euthanasia depresses you
- you can never think of anything interesting or funny to say apart from "Monica- no contest"
-you don't care about the outcome anyway, because it's just of people's opinions
-polls suck ass real bad!
The choice is yours. Maybe you'll even make a difference.

By the way, fellas, you actually have to click a button and not just write your opinion. Don't ask me why. It's the way it works. :shrug

I'm cool with 'em. They do promote participation in a way...although I don't vote in all of them.

I've probably put up ten or so polls in my entire time on this forum, LG, if that many....

But the plethora of pusillanimous polls as of late doesn't matter to moi, because I rarely give the banal threads mentioned a first or second glance...

Okay, but sometimes they can be fun. I agree, often it gets annoying. I'm undecided as yet. And I haven't put that many polls up myself. I like to think that most have been kind of interesting.

Anyway, the purpose of this one is to show whether people would like to see more polls or whether we've all had enough already and should lay off them for a while. So I think a poll about polls is very useful indeed, if only because it may actually change the way people post in the future and the frequency that some of the more inane polls appear in.

Just my two cents (actually I charge a little bit more than that normally, but for you chef, my time is free :D )

This way I don't have to write a dissertation
every damn time I make a post.

And the board doesn't have to read one.

But seriously, what would people like. I think, for the first time we have a poll that can make a difference to the way things work here, if posters will pay notice.

Perhaps the outcome of this poll can influence posters for years to come (sounds like we should make it a sticky...) or perhaps not.

So click on your answer. Come on, what's the problem, the lack of dick pics?

I would like to make it clear that I consider any thread by LG worth looking at, though. I was referring to the polls and posts by vapid twits like TINKERBELL347. The silly fop has racked up almost 1300 posts in less than two months...

They're light-hearted fun that can be skipped over at any point when not in the mood. I think they're fine.

By the way, when are we going to see a poll that asks whether we would answer a poll about whether we approve of all the polls or not?

I agree. As long as the questions truly are profound or at least interesting.

I have nothing against polls. I usually will vote and sometimes express my opinion within the thread. But I do prefer the ones that make you think, where, at the end of it all a good discussion will have been created and the poll results might be useful.

I thought Chefmike's poll on Kevorkian and my poll that followed it on euthanasia, though off-topic, were interesting and worth posting because they sparked a debate and got people to share their thoughts.

Equally, I think this poll is useful. In this case, I feel the poll results can actually serve as a guideline for how people might behave in these forums and perhaps an indicator for mods as to what people feel might be a way to improve the forums. Such ideas can come out of a discussion sparked on either by a poll or a handful of remarks.

But I think it is possible to overdo it. Some of your posts, Silklove are interesting and can create an environment for the sharing of new ideas. Others I find quite humorous- and we need humour in our lives. But we should be careful not to overdo things, I think.

I never meant this thread as a personal affront to you and I genuinely hope you didn't take it that way. I just got the feeling that some people are pretty fed up of polls in general and I feel we've had way too many lately (and you're not the only one to blame, by any means).

That is all.

Agreed. I think that the guideline for anyone who wants to post a poll should be that they should only post it if it is of interest to people, if it is an opinion poll on something of importance or a poll where the results will end up being useful in some way, or if it is likely to generate a discussion.

I think the poll on this thread qualifies. I believe several other recent polls do not.

True, we don't have to read them and give our views, but they have a tendency to bump down other threads on often more interesting or worthy issues.
