I'd like to hear the opinions of people about why they think transsexualism happens. It could turn into an interesting theory.

I read a while ago that doctors said its due to hormonal changes in the woman's body when the baby is already a boy.

My theory is that, since we all start off life as girls, that some carry that longer than others. It comes out during puberty more, and as you get older it dies away. Some people have a stronger dose of this than others, and thats why they want to go through surgical change.

What do y'all reckon?

I thought that the it happened from stress during pregnancy and thats how doctors were trying to prove that it was definately genetic. I do feel that is genetic, and that the only reason some people come out before others is based on social factors making it more difficult to feel "accepted". Ive seen people who knew at ages as young as 4. Hell, even oprah had a little boy who was 4 years old and wearing makeup and his mothers clothes. I also realize there are some fakers, gay men who escort and such and dress just to make more money!

I have a theory on this. I would love to research the frequency of people who turn TG/TS and who have androgen insensitivity syndrome (AIS)

AIS is something that can happen during birth, at six weeks, where males do not respond to androgens (hormones). This leads them to develop internally (Testicles, seminal vesicles and vas deferens) as males, and externally as females.

The reverse might lead o the case of the 'genetic' female with external male gentalia wanting to return to their 'right state'. But this would only be in cases such as that 'shemale man' guy or whatever, because the genitals are malformed either way. Basically I guess this leads to hermaphradites, rather than a yearning to change body type to conform with your 'intended sex'

So then the mind boggles. Any way, I think it is hormonal.

Not sure it relates to the question, but looking at the videos, it seems that a large number of tgirls are left-handed...
While the proportion of left-handed people is 10%, it seems to be more 20-30% among tgirls; have anybody noted this already?
Vicki is left-handed, so is Tara, ...

Watch it....................

left handed people are the only people on this earth that are in their "right" mind :D

I never really gave the "what causes transexualism" topic much thought. I am no Biologist but I have heard that certain Amphibians my switch sex when one or the other sex becomes too dominate in a reigon. While I know Amphibians are a "few steps away from mammals", but if it is a correct statement then it happens in nature. So who am I to question the wisdom of Mother Nature? I just accept and move on and enjoy the moment.

Remember My friends....... Don't focus on how you got the life you live.... focus on living the life you were given. make that life worth something.

Interesting question, Chica. However, the way you phrase it suggests that transsexualism is one thing with a single cause when it's really a complex issue of multiple causes and effects (as in ts type: non-op, post-op, etc.). And it blurs the distinction (at least biologically) between intersexuality (hermaphrodism) and transsexuality. To take the latter point: how many transsexuals are intersexed? and to what degree? Intersexuality covers a range of biological factors most obviously involving the abnormal development of genitalia (as in Klinefelter's Syndrome) and related psychological development. But most transsexuals (at least as evidenced by the 1000s of TS models featured on all our favorite web sites) are biologically male, with truly male genitalia; their transsexuality is a matter of gender identification, not simple sexuality. One theory is that transsexuals are indeed intersexed, but psychologically rather than physically. I think there's a hella lot more research to be conducted in this area.

I definitely see transsexualism as a matter of gender id, but different TS (either mtf or ftm) experience different types of transsexuality. Focusing on mtf TS, for many (maybe most), the deeply rooted desire is to become as fully feminine as science and behavior will allow, leading to srs and, prior to that, an abhorence or at least avoidance of their mis-assigned genitalia. This seems to be very close to the intersexual range; that is, the cause is fundamental to their physiological and psychological nature, perhaps owing to hormonal factors in the prenatal state.

A more interesting case is that of the non-op TS who fully gender identifies as the opposite sex (desiring to live 24/7 as that sex, including surgery to transform her body into that sex) yet does not desire srs. Is this truly a third sex (psychologically)? or pseudotranssexualism (kind of an extreme case of cross-dressing)? or such powerful enjoyment of the birth genitalia that she doesn't want to give that up? or a fear that having srs will make her less desirable? or simply delaying the srs for as long as possible (perhaps because a TS has a successful career going as an escort or actress)? or what? Maybe all of these options account for subsets of non-op TS. I don't want to speculate on the veracity of any of these as I simply don't have the perspective to do so. But it's an interesting question.

from my reading of scientific journals it seems that transsexualism is strongly associated with certain atypical brain structures. the corpus collosum which joins the two hemispheres of the brain is thicker in women, transsexuals and some gay men. it is thinner in most men and in some lesbians. this area of the brain develops mostly around the first trimester and is associated with a hormone flood. the supposition is that either there is a genetic component which makes some people less sensitive to the male hormones and thus they develop more like women, or that the mother herself for dietary or other reasons doesn't release as much male hormone and thus the fetus develops less in that direction.

it happens when god is smoking crack while ur mom prays for her child to be a certain gender and he fucks it up....

why bother giving scientific theories here, doesnt the bible have the answers to everything? maybe danielle knows a poem about god and how he plays with DNA when he is bored with creating wars and famine...

oh, and greg thanx for desert last nite it was so YUMM!!!! and andy, great game of XBOX last nite...that touchdown u scored was awesome...oh i forgot, when something is personal and not on point or interesting, keep it off the fuckin board, we kow all u girls are so cool and tight knit and so giddy like school kids, yeah we know, you tell us every chance u get, i guess u never fail to mention it to insert a playful gentler image to counterbalance the usual perception of u girls being hustling, catty, vengeful folk....

Dude, what's up? Take a chill pill. We all get the fact you don't like religion or religious people so you can stop being pissy about it now.

I'm not really into religion either, but as long as people don't use "God" as an excuse to harm other people, then why should you care? Is Danielle really offending you by quoting some poetry?

Look, we all get pissed off once in awhile by reading some things on here that make us mad, but everyone else has moved on. This thread (although I think it's a little pointless because no one really knows the answers) was very civil. Let's keep it that way.

Go out, take a walk, buy yourself a latte and come back in a better mood, ok?

Peace

I love God. I actually talk to Him bidirectionally if you believe that. I guess some people... well most people would think I am a bit off because of that, but who's to say that God won't talk back. I still say that J sounds like this old bitter guy I used to listen to when I was a teenager on this dial-an-atheist free hotline in Tucson. My friends and I used to call the recording just to laugh at how angry he was. I called it every week for like 2-3 months. Very entertaining. The other number was dial-a-joke which was also very entertaining.

What I don't understand is why such a cute guy like J would be so bitter about the topic. It's pretty easy to just go through life living and let living. Why get mad when people don't agree with your beliefs?

Well J, I feel for ya. Everything is OK in moderation. I don't like people cramming things down my throat either... well most things ;) ... but anyway... I guess I now see where you are coming from. Religion has caused a lot of problems and a lot of deaths. It is not an excuse to kill people or conquest as it has been used for all throughout history. It's supposed to teach tolerence, but people go overboard and just hear what they want to hear and ignore all the rest. That is when it becomes sad, hateful, and dark. One of my brothers who no longer talks to me (but sure talks a lot about me) is supposedly Christian. He can use his faith as a means of disowning me as a sibbling, but it didn't stop him from loving money and sleeping around on his wife. One of my sisters is the same way. She gave me my first bible and wrote a bunch of inspirational stuff in it when she was in her harc0re Christian phase, now that she's not, nothing is there to make her question the things she does or make her a better person. At least judging how she treats me and her husband that's the case.

I use faith or religion more as a mechanism to make myself a better person. While most people should govern themselves, this alone doesn't always cut it. When I am thinking shitty thoughts about people, I generally withdrawl into my religion and question what the right thing to do is. It may be cheesy, but it would never harm anyone or hurt their life.

Hang in there baby... It sounds like you've lost more than most TS I know. You fit right in with us. :)

The one thing I didn't like about most of these posts is the word caused as if it's a disease or something. As far as the religion and athiest thing goes I have friends of many religions as well as many athiest friends all are just fine by me. Back to the question at hand, some T's I talk to say they were attracted to men and felt fem. yet when they were young men they'd go to gay bars yet the men their wanted nothing to do with gurls, they wanted men. When they made the change, they found it easier to find men who were attracted beauty. They attract a whole different kind of man as most want to say Transexuals and tranny chasers are all just gay, it's not that simple.

silence implies u dont take me up on drinks vick? lol

I started to respond, but I realized I can't without saying something derrogatory about my first and only trip to NYC and Allanah parties. As much as I like the guys there, I just can't see myself going back to NYC babe.

I had this long rant about my shitty hotel in Korea town and $50 cab rides into Manhattan written and I deleted it...
