Apparently, I'm the only one who remembers the "Tranzor Z" cartoon from back in the '80s... No surprise, since it only ran for about three weeks.

What is Tranzor Z about?

Tranzor Z was a cartoon along the lines of Voltron, where a kid docked a hovercraft into the head of the robot, from which he controlled it.
I recall that the fists of the robot flew off at the command "Rocket Punch!", and that a disintegration beam was emitted from its chest, plus rockets could be launched from the robot's elbows. It also had a "backpack" which allowed it to fly. Interestingly enough, there was a "female" counterpart, which had boobs that launched as high explosive rockets.
It was only on TV in the US briefly, and is known, so I am told, as "Mazinger Z" or something in Japan and much of the rest of the world. Pretty good cartoon as I recall, but then, I was like seven or eight years old... If I saw it now it'd probably be complete crap.

Voltron gets my vote since I actually remember it. I remember running around as a kid pretending to be a ninja turtle with a pillow on my back (it was my shell...) tied around my mid-torso with a belt. It wasn't just any belt, though. It was my VOLTRON BELT OF ULTRA-MAGNETISM (magnetic clip).

Good times.

I remember Tranzor Z. I think it ran longer in my neck of the woods. That show was crazy. We use to say that Tranzor Z came from a toilet bowl. Do you remember the water sequence? The female robot with breasts that were missiles was another reason to love that show...the 80's. I doubt kids would be allowed to watch that show now.

Voltron was the show though. I'm a fan boy. I own every episode on dvd. eBay is a great site 8)

I do remember the water sequence! Tranzor Z came up from under a giant water fountain or something... Toilet bowl, huh? Funny!

I've got Voltron on DVD too, but haven't been able to find some other shows I liked, like the Bionic Six, Sabre Rider and the Star Sheriffs, Visionaries, or the Silverhawks, though I did find the Rambo cartoon and the Galaxy Rangers. If it's not on DVD at this point, I'm fairly certain it won't ever be.

Great call Jericho...
Of course, among the greatest of '80s cartoons, besides Thundarr the Barbarian, was M.A.S.K. Taking my cue from Jericho, here's a quick memory jogger for the '80s babies...

Wasn't a fan of Robotech for some reason, Starblazers... not so much either.

Remember a cartoon called "Air Raiders"? Or the one where the guys wore these battlesuits that had snap on attachments? It was a toy line too... Don't remember what the show was called, but the one battlesuite was called "Liquidator", which I remember because I had the toy. All I remember was that the opening song to the cartoon ended "Man and Machine... Power EXTREME!!!"

I'm feeling very old now, and must move on...

Anybody else hear talk about a Voltron movie? I'm wondering if there's any truth to it, but seeing as how they made a Transformers movie, I'm hoping it's more than just a rumor. Mind you, I heard it ninth hand from a guy who's not the most credible person I know, so...

Still, anybody hear this rumor or know more about a movie being made?

The news is actually old. The release date is either 2008 or 2009 now. Here's a link about Pharrell's involvement:

Thanks for that info Kabuki. The information is indeed old, but I've never heard it before, so it's new to me. I'll keep an eye out for the movie... but have to admit that I can't see how it'll be worth seeing, as I doubt it has any budget of significance.

Like Transformers, you have to see it. You know you need to see if it rapes your childhood....lol.

By the way, was that Vicki saying that Legend is 16 or something. I know for sure he isn't a minor. Minors wouldn't be mad about the 80's shows being made into films...lol.

Wow, thanks for the memory jog.

I remember running home as fast as possible to catch the latest episode of Starblazers. This would be around 1980-1981, give or take.
I fucking LOVED that show. Too bad it only ran for 2 seasons/storylines here in the states.

I never watched Voltron, but in high school a group of friends and I all had bowls that we would conjoin together to make...VolBowl.
There was nothing like smoking pot out of VolBowl. lol

No you're not! Although I vaguely remember the cartoon itself, I do remember the robot...and his sidekick Aphrodite A with her rocket breasts.

I actually chose Voltron though. Not the lions, but the other one...with the fifteen pieces. You know; jet plane head, sport utility feet, helicopter upper arms and such.

I still have both versions on display in my home, although "lion" Voltron's sword broke in half years ago. They're the real Japanese versions as well...and no, they will not be for sale anytime soon. :P

Damn...Voltron, Tranzor Z, M.A.S.K., Transformers, Robotech, GoBots :!: ...this is bringing back some memories!

I do believe you're right on that. The car Voltron was, to me, like Knight Rider 2000... unwatchable, and a irreparable blemish on the franchise.

I actually had some Go-Bots. Did anyone ever notice that Leader One was shot down in like every episode?...lol. He could never compete with Prime. Go-Bots were really low budget. I can't believe I watched the show.

The funny thing about that show was they had a bad guy that was half male and half female straight down the middle of his/her body. So one half was male and the other female.
