Could someone explain this much used/abused term to a newbie? Does it mean 'flaming' or 'spamming' being rude or abusive? Or critcising someone's point of view? If so can it be abused to censor or prevent free speech or debate?

We don't get that over here. Is Cold Stone Creamery's ice cream as good as Ben and Jerry's? And WTF happened to Dayville's? Where did they go.

And the you have it, NRT. Welcome aboard.

I heard of postings being deleted or people being banned for 'hijacking'. so was wondering if went that far, it could be used the adminsitrators to stop free speech or debate. Think I got the gyst

Ben and Jerry's makes one of the greatest ice cream bars in the world (at least they use to). The Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough bar. I urge anyone reading this thread, who happens to be a pot smoking enthusiast, to avoid these at all costs. They became highly addictive to me for an entire summer once.

Oh, and the term is "Threadjacking". The only thread around here that probably hasn't been subjected to that is "Shemale Cartoons". I see that thread is now sitting at over 1.4 million views. I thought the world was going to end when it hit 1 million, thankfully I was wrong.

Speaking of which, I finally saw Apocalypto the other day. I was kinda disappointed, but I suppose I wasn't expecting all that much anyways.

:P

Okay, let's see how many directions we can take this thread in...

Apocalypto...haven't seen it. I'm not sure I'm digging the new Mel Gibson though- complicated movies in languages that nobody can understand. The Passion of the Christ was not a good film. Instead of teaching love and understanding it showed violence, to the point where it seemed almost pornographic (in the original sense of the word, not - in the sense that it was completely gratuitous and the only reason for showing it would be because- quite simply- some people (like Gibson) seemed to get off on it.

And speaking of gratuitous violence, why did I laugh so hard when Vincent blew Marvin's head off in the back of the car in that scene in Pulp Fiction? A minute later, I'm thinking:"umm, this is really bad, I shouldn't be laughing...I'm supposed to be a nice, sensitive guy....but that shit was hilarious".

Why do we laugh at things like that? What is it, also, about black humour that is so fucking funny?

Please explain.

at the and of the day its more or less the same like laughing at the destruction of alderaan "brain the size of a planet"

i listened to one of the pa podcasts a few hours ago and it contained a segment about a job i definately want to have
its starts with how one of the guy bought his kid a toy which can pronounce words... well actually it pronounces single letters and if you type fast enough you get the word
anyway the first thing he did with it was try to make it say dick (closet gay cough cough ^^) and he got to the c after which the thing only said "hehe that tickles"
point is i want to be the guy who gets paid for comming up with a list of every potentially offensive word kids might want to type into theses toys

Interesting. And Pluto's no longer a planet, is it? It's a dwarf planet.

According to Wikipedia
A planet, as defined by the International Astronomical Union (IAU), is a celestial body orbiting a star or stellar remnant that is massive enough to be rounded by its own gravity, not massive enough to cause thermonuclear fusion in its core, and has cleared its neighbouring region of planetesimals.

And speaking of Wikipedia, what do you think of it. I read a study that says its almost as accurate as Britannica, but the problem is that anyone can make an edit, so people put all kinds of shit there, like their birthdays and stuff. I use it all the time, but I doublecheck first. I'd say that along with google and this site, it's my favourite website.

What do you think?

The Pulp Fiction scene is great because it's the ultimate film version of threadjacking. The guy in the back seat is set up as what you'd expect will be an important character in the story line, then out of the blue, BLAM, he gets his head blown off. Not wounded, not put in precarious health, but capital d Dead. It's hilarious because it's so unexpected.

Kinda like another quote from H.L.Mencken (one of which someone has in there signature here), "It is impossible to imagine Goethe or Beethoven being good at billiards or golf.", although that's not entirely true, because oddly enough I'm imagining them playing a hybrid form of both right now. Actually, a hybrid of golf and billiards would simply be croquett.

Has anybody here ever played croquett? It's seems like that sport died out with the whole Great Gatsby generation.

Croquet, huh?

Reminds me of a Robin Williams monologue:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6X04wZpqx3U

(with a strong Scottish accent) Here's my idea for a sport. I knock a ball in a gopher hole.

Like pool?

Fuck off pool, not with a straight stick, with a little fucked up stick. I whack a ball it goes in a gopher hole.

Oh you mean like croquet?

Fuck croquet. I put the hole hundreds of yards away.

Oh like a bowling thing?

Not straight. I put shit in the way. Like trees and bushes and high grass. So you can lose you fucking ball. And go hacking away with a fucking tire iron. Whacking away, and each time you miss you feel like you'll have a stroke. Fuck that's what we'll call it, a stroke, cause each time you miss you feel like you're going to die. Oh great, oh and here's the better part this is brilliant. Right near the end I'll put a little flat piece with a little flag to give you fucking hope. But then I'll put a little pool and a sand box to fuck with your ball again. Ay, you'll be there cracking your ass, jacking away in the sand!

Oh and you do this one time?

Fuck no! Eighteen fucking times!

Why can't Robin Williams be funny now like used to be back then? He used to be a star of humour. Now he's not even a dwarf planet, like Pluto.

And did they really discover 28 new planets over the last year?

I am risking my life to bring this information to you, but the time has come. An insidious plot against what they so deragatorialy refer to as "Overgrowns" is in its final stages before world domination can take place.

Soon it will be too late to halt the coming of the New Midget World Order. Then all who can see the tops of buildings shall be forced into silence.

It began innocuously enough, as the so-called "little people" carved out a tiny niche for themselves in a new industry known as Motion pictures. Soon they were shagging our tall, luscious starlets. They even made a western in a failed attempt to rewrite American history.

The wrongly despised secret society known as the Masons has been waging a behind the scenes war with the Midget Coalition for centuries. But lately, thanks to the Austin powers movies, Kid Rock and Pornography, the midgets have begun asserting their subtle plan of manipulation.

I spent two years walking on my knees, undercover, to infiltrate their elitist power struggle. Now the truth can be told.

Midgets, Elves, Dwarves, Oompa Loompas, whatever you want to call them, little people are frightening.

There's something about them that is extremely unsettling, from their little legs to their almost enormous heads. Anything with that lack of proportion seems like a threat to me.

Midgets have sports leagues named after them, this is how they get to our children. They can relate with children because on average, they're the same size, don't think they're not corrupting the minds of our children, making them compete against one another and giving trophies to everyone, even the kids who lose.
I'm not sure if midgets can fire guns; what with their small, sausage-like fingers, but god help us all if they can.

The midgets are a race of people who, strangly, can breed with regular people and produce non-midget offspring. Thusly, passing their tainted midget gene Verticulus Retardicus onto their offspring who can pass it down to their children, even if they concieve with another "norm". This is the most frightening aspect about the midget, not that they are little and weird, but their genes are sneaky. They can spring up with no explanation.

There are roughly 11600 midgets in the city of Toronto alone. They account for one in every 26000 births worldwide.

The midget is built much like the prehisoric killer Tyranosaurus Rex; large head, small useless arms, and a small brain which causes them both to kill mercilessly. The only difference, T-Rex is extinct while the midget still thrives.

I wouldn't suggest you go out and kill a midget, that would be unwise. I've never seen a midget die, and therefore I cannot be sure that they can actually be killed.

In my opinion, the only thing scarier than midgets is the tremendous influence they have in Hollywood. Vern Troyer, Warwick Davis, Gary Coleman, Estelle Getty, Yoda, Mickey Rooney, it's endless.

Don't be fooled by midgets, gentle reader. Some of them may look happy and carefree running around the circus. Just ask yourself, why are they so happy? They're little and weird and are eye level with fat ladies' asses. Never turn your back on a midget, they can pounce lightning fast. To a midget, there's nothing sweeter than gnawing off the legs of a "Norm" and letting him know what it feels like to live so close to the ground.

Take heed and beware of these smurf-like sociopaths, or your next visit to the circus might be your last.

Please take a few moments to review the accompanying websites from my allies in the struggle to remain free under Masonic rule.

Hey, leave the little people alone. Midgets are people too...

And though most of us think we can kick their ass, I'm sure they can give you a nasty bite to the testicles.

Talking about bites, I fucking hate mosquitoes! But did you know that only the male feeds on your blood. As for the female black widow spider, she eats her man after they get laid. Fuck, that's even worse than being asked what your name is the morning after. Did that ever happen to anyone?

Since this thread has already been hijacked, and with good reason, seeing as this explains the answer to the first poster's question better than any definition could, I would invite everyone who feels like threadjacking to do so here and only here. That way the thread will develop dynamically and- what's more- we won't piss off Allanah by ruining her threads and she won't delete us.

I agree. I always thought it would be cool to have a movie with some big name stars, who you think will be important characters, and wham, they are dead. Then some other characters, who you thought were going to be cannon fodder would take over as the lead people.

Fair enough, TJ, but this guy is really annoying. From the posts of his I've run across, he has proven himself to be 1) a manic forum poster, 2) an admitted, uh, fan of "young looking ts girls" (read into that what you will), and 3) obsessed with being viewed as a forum tough guy (Junkyard Dog, heh).

There is something very wrong with this odd, anonymous individual.

Gentlemen, here will be no flaming in this thread. You may threadjack all you like, but flaming is prohibited.

Not that flaming is bad. As I once said, flame wars are sort of like a colonic irrigation for the board. They can help to clear the air just as a colonic clears your rectum and colon (or so I've been told- I've never had one). The problem is that even when you wash the shit away, it gets back in there somewhere sooner or later.

Or you could say that flaming is like a family vendetta. Fortunately, flaming does not usually involve guns or high explosives. Not yet, but Vicki has been talking to some people about changing that, apparently.

Or you could say that flaming is good, because it all allows us to get things out in the open, kind of like skinny dipping. It refreshes parts that cannot usually be reached (in this case our thirst for using four letter words at our place of work or home without losing our job or friends).

Flaming is all about equal opportunities too. Everybody gets flamed. Abuse is an equal-opportunity benefit.

Often, flame wars make us laugh. Personally, I thought it was very funny when I told TFan that I didn't think he was stupid but that he merely gave a very good impression of being very stupid. It is nice to use expressions like "if a cannibal cracked your head open, he wouldn't find enough to spread on a small water biscuit" or "my mother told me not to argue with assholes" or "I can't talk any more- I'm allergic to morons". Thus flaming can be fun, especially if you are arguing against someone without brains. But entering a flaming war may be enough proof that you're somewhat lacking in the brain department too.

So flaming is bad. Really, really bad. Stop it. Like now. Immediately. Bad, bad thing. Okay?

I will now hijack this thread to bring you a funny picture of a dead possum. (Some people actually eat pick up roadkill and eat it. I think it's gross, but what do I know? There's even a cookbook: http://www.amazon.com/Original-Road-Kill-Cookbook/dp/0898152003 )

People have expressed an annoyance with flaming any number of times, but it appears that whom the flames are coming from plays a big part in how much it's tolerated.

On another note, has anybody caught Painkiller Jane lately? I've missed a few episodes now, but am trying to give the show a full season before I make a decision. Wouldn't be fair to just write it off after two episodes, although I started to do just that ten minutes into the first show I saw.

The late Lolo Ferrari. Good choice LG.
You appear to be quite familiar with Painkiller Jane too, though I imagine the TV show doesn't play outside of the US (and probably won't play too much longer in the US either). The episodes I've seen have been woefully lacking.
The remake of the Punisher was the best, definitely. And I'd have preferred she were named Painkiller Penelope, but I didn't have a say in the matter.

Here's my problem with the handfull of HA trolls. They not only annoy the hell out of me when they appear in threads I'm posting in (beyond that, I don't have any interest in them), but they also creep me out. For an example: This Chefmike loser. Every time he attempts to get some sort of flame war thing going, he demonstrates a very disturbing amount of knowledge about practically everything, it seems, going on this forum. He must read Every Single Post.

I'm not going to go into the insane amount of times he's posted himself, or the fact that he must spend 24 hours a day here (if not posting, watching and lurking). What really gets me is that he's got this delusion of himself as a "junkyard dog" (which is pretty hysterical), being a tough guy on a message board. Most of the regular posters here who seem like good people have shown their faces (or more), as well as other personal information.

This clown is an anonymous, worthless, yapping little dog. The bad thing is when he finally does snap and initiates his rampage, we still won't know who to look out for.

To be fair, if I never saw the guys nonsense again, I wouldn't bother to verbally bitch slap him around on occasion. No one can fault me for that, because I never go looking for the idiot. He stalks me. I've never once tried to start shit on this forum with anybody.

(Start the countdown, I'm sure the wacko will be trembling in his chair any minute now, chomping at the bit to respond. He can't help himself)

But yes, big boobs. Nothing wrong with that. I won't even do a threadjack here for awhile so that topic gets explored more fully.

Not necessarily. Let's try to make it something of more substance...

Has anybody ever read "Brave New World", by Aldous Huxley? It's one of my favorite books, though the movie I saw, starring Leonard Nimoy, was a great disappointment. One of the things I most liked about the book was how accurately in many respects Huxley saw the future. It truly is a very moving tale.

What's the appeal of "fish hooking"?

Re: Ferarri

I was getting stewed at the Paddock bar in Hunt Valley this past weekend and caught part of the HR psorts car auction. Anyone else catch that? Damned Shelby racer pulled down over $2 mil in bids!

Jeez-US! I'd be afraid to drive the thing. That's like buying a Tucker Torpedo and taking it to work during rush hour. :smh

Since we're talking about cars, let's talk about Bentleys! W.O. Bentley, the company founder, is an interesting character, whose story is much to involved to get into much here. I only mention him because I've often wondered what he'd think about current Bentleys, or the state of automotive engineering overall. I bet guys like Bentley, Henry Ford, and even more recent characters like Harley Earl and Enzo Ferrari would be overwhelmed looking at all the techno-wizardry involved in today's cars.
Some modern Bentleys...

Fish hooking is questionable, the girl could bite your fingers and what's the point when you can just as easily be pulling her hair?

;)

Wouldn't that suck to lose a finger during sex? Actually I know a guy who, during a fight, managed to have his own thumb pulled off (it's a complicated story).

Anyone else ever lose a thumb?

A favorite quote (And painfully accurate if you've seen one of the new BMW/Rolls Royce models lately) by the automotive reporter for the LA Times in reference to the new Rolls:

"Not since torch-weilding peasants pursued Frankenstein's creation across the countryside has a noble soul been so tortured."

I recited this quote as I viewed a new Rolls on Boylston Street in Boston a couple of years back, with the owner in earshot. The poor bastard just stared at me, while a restaurant full of witnesses looked on, and I shrugged and said "Hey, =you= bought it!".

Anyone else ever lose a thumb?

No, but when I broke my hand swinging at the cable guy (Muthahfuckah ducked), "The Wife" drove me to the hospital and when the admitting nurse asked what happened TW blurted "Well, I was in the throes of orgasm and crossed my legs!".

The nurse actually typed that into the file.

Can anybody confirm whether Law & Order and CSI: New York are being cancelled? Just heard from a friend of mine that neither is being renewed.

On another note, what about that Kobe Bryant? The guy has delusions of being the second coming of Michael Jordan, fails to live up to those delusions, and now cries for a trade to another team, blaming the Lakers and not his own shortcomings for failing to win championships since Shaq got traded to Miami.

Star Wars is the greatest sci-fi series EVER!!!

But seriously, those can't be the stats. I've , thankfully, only had the problem maybe five or six times (usually after a curry).

Anyway, buying diarrhea medication from the pharmacy (the drugstore to you Americans) is always an awful experience, but especially the first time, when you feel obligated to buy a whole load of shit just to find the courage to approach the guy behind the counter and ask him for the stuff. Like when you first buy condoms or a porno mag. And then the fucker toys with you!

You: I'll take these...and do you have anything for...um...diarrhea
Pharmacist: I'm sorry sir, I didn't quite hear you.
You: You know, for loose...um...stool
Pharmacist: Is that the name of the drug?
You: Diarrhea man! I have diarrhea?
Pharmacist: Diarrhea?
You: Yes! I've got the shits!
Pharmacist: Oh, diarrhea. And have you had this a lot?
You: I had it this morning! I think I'm going to have it again soon! What's the difference?!?
Pharmacist: Yes, we have just the thing. Is it for you?
You: Yes!!! Now give it to me before I shit all over your store!!!

So the guy takes his time finding the drug, scanning the bar code, asking for assistance to scan the bar code, effectively telling the whole store that you've got the shits by shouting to the other side of the store asking for the price, wrapping it up, charging you, giving you your change. and then you take the stuff, forget the change and run out of the store looking for a public toilet.

And that's why I try to stay away from vindaloos.

I've chatted with Nelly. She wants to take him out (not on date...more like with a semi-automatic). I've told her to bid her time...I'm a pacifist. Also, I don't date puppets.

Just because whatsupwithat tells you something, don't mean it's true. If GW Bush told you he was a member of Mensa, would you believe it.

In fact, whatsupwithat paraded around telling people he had won before the fight ever started. If GW Bush goes around telling people America are winning in Iraq, would you believe him?

Other than that, whatsupwithat is a great guy.
