Have you ever responded to a seemingly innocent thread, only to realize moments later that the person who posted it only wanted to see how many people he/she could get to respond to what you now recognize as a completely idiotic topic? You almost certainly have, and for the sake of all of us, I would like to kindly ask those who post pointless topics to take a few minutes to answer these three questions before starting a thread:

1. Do I actually have a point, and do I possess the language skills
necessary to articulate what that point is clearly enough for others
to understand it?

2. Is there any value whatsoever, educational, comedic or otherwise,
in the thread I wish to start?

3. Have other threads I've started in the past been widely ridiculed for
being pointless? (If so, then it would be wise to take at least a half
hour or more to think about the new thread you wish to start.)

We'd all like to see everybody contribute to HA, but just having people respond to nonsense threads does not equal their making a contribution. A contribution has substance, and there can be no substance in a response to a thread that itself has no substance. So, please take a minute or two (or ten or thirty or sixty even), to think about it before you start a new thread. A "Who Do You Think Is Better- Lou Reed or Lou Rawls?" thread helps none of us...
