Advice please: my roommate won't stop talking

Hey, what the hell, it's a change from the you-know-what threads...

So I have this roommate. Very kind girl, kind of a beat poet coffeeshop hippie chick. The girl will strike up a convo if you run into her...and just goes off about whatever. My other roommate's daughter said to me, "Eventually I just have to walk away from her."

It's really bad if she's on the 'hippie speedball'....coffee and weed. Weepin Jaysus on the cross. A couple of weeks ago I made us breakfast and tried to say to her in a kind way, "ya know....this probably keeps people from wanting to talk to you more", and she responded with, "whatever, I gotta be me, like this one time in band camp when I...."

So is there ANYTHING I can do other than grin and bear it and avoid her a lot more than I ordinarily would?

I guess I should have mentioned that she only likes girls...not that I'd be interested...she kind of looks like Rick Moranis with long hair and a knit cap.

For me a few things come to mind;

1. Women tend to be much more communicative than men, and the
'chatty Cathy' routine seems to really irritate men.

2. Some people talk alot when they are nervous.

3. There is a possibility that she may be bi-polar, leaning more to the
manic side, and the excessive talking may be indicative of that.

Perhaps, you may want to say to her in a calm, rational, compassionate
manner that you find her constant talking irksome, and that while you
find her to be a pleasant person over-all, that for your own mental health
you would prefer that she tone it down a notch.
