Britain's respected newspaper The Guardian reported that scientists have been offered $10,000 by an Exxon-backed think tank to trash today's landmark UN study finding global warning is on a collision course with life on earth and 90% likely to be caused by human activity (aka the fossil fuel economy).

Just yesterday, Exxon reported a $4.5 million per day profit, more than any corporation in the history of the world.

$40 billion per year in profit made not only at the expense of gouged motorists and a fragile economy but at the cost of human life on earth.

Isn't it time Exxon is forced to disclose every payment it makes to scientists, researchers and experts to hide the evidence of its crimes? Second hand smoke may have killed many Americans, but Exxon's products are killing the earth. It's time Congress forced oil companies to come clean about the junk science they fund.

According to The Guardian, the Exxon-financed American Enterprise Institute (AEI) was offering scientists and economists $10,000 each to write articles undercutting the report from the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Travel expenses were also being offered.

The AEI has received more than $1.6 million from Exxon Mobil and more than 20 of its staff have worked as consultants to the Bush administration, which has resisted reports of global warming. Lee Raymond, a former head of ExxonMobil, is the vice-chairman of AEI's board of trustees, "The Guardian" reported.

The IPCC report released today in Paris says scientists' "best estimate" is that temperatures will rise 3.2 to 7.8 degrees by 2100. In contrast, the increase from 1901 to 2005 was 1.2 degrees. The report also projects that sea levels could rise by 7 to 23 inches by the end of the century.

Scientists have suspected in recent years that Mars might be undergoing some sort of global warming. New data points to the possibility it is emerging from an ice age.

Exxon is holding a gun to someone's head and forcing them to drive a car? It's amazing, everyone wants to point fingers at 'big oil' and dubya but I don't see anybody parking that big old SUV. Big oil is NOT the problem, YOU are.
As far as their profitability is concerned, this is still a free market capital economy, or am I wrong? Consider the cost of capital expenditure, infrastructure and exploration to retrieve a barrel of oil(which by the way is considerably cheaper per liter than bottled water). The profit margin on big oil is around 7-8%, far lower than many industries with much lower capital requirements. I don't hear anyone complaining about Nike using three bucks worth of materials and a buck's worth of Chinese labor to make a pair of shoes they charge $175 for.

What alogre does in his powerpoint presentation is take two graphs, one temps, one CO2, and strongly implies CO2 causes temperatures to increase. That is false. What algore won`t do is combine the two graphs. If he did it would prove that he is a liar.

Here are the facts:

1. Global warming exists.
2. CO2 levels are rising.

Here are the incorrect inferences by algore:

1. Global warming is caused by rising CO2 levels.
2. Rising CO2 levels are caused by humans.

I saw Svenson's original post last night and didn't bother responding to it until I could be more certain as to that same determination. Anyway, this morning I looked at a couple of things that make me believe it is almost certainly our boy:

1. The gays in the military response is classic WMC.

2. The repeated use of that ridiculous sunglasses emoticon, which he uses here constantly.

3. He referred to transsexuals as "chicks with dicks." I know he's used that term here because its use surprised me at the time.

4. He used the term "pantywaist," which isn't a commonly used term these days (more of a late 80s, early 90s term). He has also used that term here.

5. He didn't put any space between his comma and the word that followed it, something he does all the time in his posts here.

6. His getting banned. Let’s face it, if he acted like he does here on any other forum, he would be banned in an instant.

My only question is what in the hell did he do to actually get banned? Neither of those posts are the type of statement that would get you banned anywhere. Was it something that happened in a chat room, or were there other posts that were deleted by moderators?

Nature 5 April 2007 has an article concerning global warming and climate forcing on Mars. check out page 646-649. Seems it not due to increased solar flux as pantiwaste WMC claims. Rather it due to the darkening of the albedo of Mars due to the redistribution of dust (by planetary storms) over it's surface. Earth's albedo is also darkening because of the recession of glaciers and snow cover.
