Most of you probably know spam when you see it.
But it's going around.
Thanks in advance for dealing with it, mods.
Click those links, get a virus.

one thing you'll notice with these spammers is ,they usually have only 1 or 2 posts

so beware ifyou see a new poster posting links

I never believed that there are really ppl who click the links..... it´s more than obvious that they are spammers. I´ve noticed this new kind of commercials on every other forum, too. They don´t want to post more, it´s just one post and they´re gone. There´s no reason to ban them.

Btw, suckseed, with this thread, you´re spamming, too.

Those spams with 50 clickable links apparently are only there to boost their ratings on search engines. That's why the mods should remove them as quickly as possible.
I wish there was an internet 'superhero' with awesome tech skills that could attack the spammer's computers. These people are scum.

Believe me, there is an internet superhero.

That's been on a few other boards I go on.The poster has various names & each one contains Trojans. A Mod on one of the boards traced the IP & they came back from Turkey & somewhere else,so they/he/it must be using proxies.
On post which covered a board was hundreds of links to viagra, porn, penis enlargment ect.

there is an easy way to stop spammers.

admins can set the values so that anyone with fewer than x amount (say 10 or 50) posts cannot start a new thread.

Actually that depends on the software.

It wouldn't have stopped them on my site. They were posting in threads. I did the number authentication thingy. I did email authentication... They were still coming. So we had to set it so that the admin authorizes all new members. Oh well. Funny thing is, they even will email the admin telling us that they have created a new account and to please authorize them. Very persistent these spammers.

phpBB gurus: as far as I remember (I used to work extensively with phpBB 3 years ago, but I'm mostly using FUD forum now) there's no "delete all posts by [user]" feature in phpBB, as there is in some other software (like FUD). Anyone know of such a trick for phpBB?

You're right Vickie. What we were forced to do on SER is create Admin approval for membership, supplimented by flagging IP's of know spammers. If the applicant for membership comes into que with a red IP flag we review the IP and approve or deny from there. Not fool proof (nothing to stop them from using another ISP or puter) and in some cases of extreme abuse we wind up blocking entire nod's but bottom line the spamming stopped. After a rest period we unblock the IP or nod. By then the Spammer has given up.

I switched to the newer LMR FUD software. Much more reliable, but for some reason doesn't handle 'r's' very well.
