I just got back from MOSCONE center in San Francisco.
Apple today introduced a device that many of you will gag at once you see and buy it when its available.
Its called the IPHONE and its just sick.
Imagine if you will a table FILLED with the coolest phones in the world on it.
Then imagine someone coming up to the table and swiping their arm across it knocking every phone to the floor.
That what APPLE did today.
Go to APPPLE.COM and see for yourself.
I have pictures I took today and I am going back on thursday.
Good evening.

The iphone is very nice and I applaud the innovative and creative genius of Apple.

But for me I am 'sweating' the Nokia E61. The Nokia E61 is a smartphone, with Wi-Fi Voip, Bluetooth, Symbian OS, quadband GSM/GPRS, 3G technology (UMTS), and infrared.

As it is a smartphone, it of course is a PDA with web browsing capabilities.

The smart phone is equipped with a decent music player. It plays back MP3 and AAC files and can sort songs by artist, album, genre, or composer. You can also create playlists right on the device, set songs on random or repeat mode, and tweak the sound settings via the built-in equalizer. For videos, RealPlayer is onboard and is compatible with MPEG-4, MP4, 3GP, RV, RA, AAC, AMR, and MIDI formats.

Though the E61 lacks a camera, you can view JPEG, BMP, BNG, and GIF files with the included image viewer. If you are in need of this phone with a camera, you may want to hold out for the proposed E61i, or go for the E62, which unfortunately doesn't have Wi-fi Voip capabilities.

Apple products have not only been consistently groundbreaking, but still the most user-friendly, intuitive based products going. My only complaint is that they are still too pricey. There is no reason for an Ipod to cost so much, for example.

(sigh) Oh, to have bought stock in them years ago when the stock was hovering around $13.00 -- that's happened twice. :(

The lack of a keyboard is exactly what killed PocketPC's in the first place back when WinCE was in its infancy. Now, you can't even find a Windows Mobile 5 or Palm OS 5.4.9 based device without Cellular capability and a keyboard to bundle along with it
And this applies to the iphone how???

Windows Mobile is a joke...

This phone is gonna sell like hotcakes.

It prolly won't penetrate the corprate market... but from a usability standpoint home users will love it.

OK, to me it's kinda obvious that Apple is not trying to enter a market but trying to create a new one. The phone probably could never be a hit with professionals or business types, but Apple never has been. If you look at the brand it really caters to a certain niche, just like the commercials suggest-- mostly the artsy creative types. The iphone is no different.
I have always thought that smart phones were great, but in all honesty have no use for most of their functions. This iphone is perfect for the consumer who may not want to do business on their phone, but wants all the gadgets in one small cool package.
As far as being economical, what has Apple ever produced that was? The previously mentioned way over priced ipod is selling like crazy. So don't under estimate the power of the "niche".

The day this came out Apples stock went up 9 points and Palm and Blackberrys stock went down 7 points each!
So wall street does not agree with you Unisex!
A lot of people HATE cingular and the corporate types probably wont like having yahoo mail as their email but other than that this phone is a win win for everyone.
Since its based off of the apple mac osx you can concieeivably port computer class appplications not those toy apps you see on cell phones and the horrendous windows ce platform.
I saw with my own eyes this CELL PHONE handle GOOGLE EARTH with NO PROBLEM!
That takes serious CPU power not something the usual ULV processor handles easily.
Apples ONLY problem is how to keep up with demand.
By the way the wall street types are "gushing" over this phone.

Oh, I'm not denying the Ipod's iconic status, as props are fully deserved, but once again, can you or anyone justify the price? One can make the arguement that pricing is just one of the reasons the personal computer world defaulted to Microsoft's inferior operating systems, and not the superior user friendly Macintosh OS.

Just a thought. :)

They weren't the first to make portable mp3 players but they were the first to make it lucrative. There were other DAP but other than the CD player the mini disk and DATs never really got mainstream. Most people wouldn't know a minidisk or a DAT tape if they seen one. To say that CD players and iPods are in the same market is like saying 1980s crazy big boom boxes are in competition with iPods. The iPod antiquated the CD walkman.

Even with Napster and the P2P craze making mp3s a big deal, mp3 players were not a big deal until the iPod came to the game. After that everyone else had to play catch up. And they took so long to compete that even the better designed mp3 players can't budge Apple's market share.

The iPhone will appeal to a certain kind of person in the same way Sidekicks appeal to people. They can spend less (or about the same money) and get a better phone with more features than a Sidekick but they want a Sidekick. The iPod will do just that.

They also will get the smaller mp3 player. The way folks snatch up Nanos baffles me but they sell quite well. Those much smaller mp3 players sell even though they cost almost as much as the 30 and 60 gigs that also do video.

I also thought the smaller screen video would not be that appealing until I witnessed it for myself. People are buying TV shows, music vids and movies for iPods and PSPs like crazy and the iPhones will make that market go up even more because the screen is larger that the current iPods.

And if you know Apple, the iPhone will get better and better with each release (one of the reasons why I hate buying new Apple products, they make the next version so much better and offer it as the same price).

There's a simple reason why Apple stuff is like hotcakes... it's worth getting excited over.

There's a whole aura... and culture built around Mac. It's a premium product company that makes very shiny technology that works as well as it looks, and they market it incredibly well. Not to mention Steve Jobs is a fucking incredibly charismatic little bastard. He's a very talented man with a brilliant mind... Admittedly, he's also a huge asshole; but there's always that asshole you can't help but love. He and Woz invented the personal computer, and years later, it was Jobs who revived Apple from the dead and brought it to life again. People can't help but respect that.

This will be the definitive tech-toy of 2007. :)

The most important thing of the iPhone is that is one of the first smartphones that uses a complete desktop OS adapted to a mobile device instead the crappy thing named Windows Mobile.

Windows Mobile is nothing more than a patched version of Windows CE which was created using WinPad (Windows 95 adaptation for tablets) and an operating system that Microsoft designed for eBook readers. In other words a very simple stuff that was released only for compete against Apple Newton and the Palm Pilot.

The other innovative part of the iPod is the multitouch screen, thanks to this you can press at the same time 2 or more points with your fingers and all them will be recognized at the same time. The funny part is that is patented by Apple.

let the games begin

Say it isn’t so! A whole FOUR days before the launch of the iPhone, crazed iPhone owner wannabes are already forming lines at Apple’s 5th Avenue flagship store in NYC. This location is known for its huge lines on new product launch dates, so I guess it can’t come as too much of a surprise.

Right now there are only two people in line, but we expect more and more people to begin joining them in the coming days. They look ready for their adventure, having backpacks and camping chairs ready.

If this is the competition New Yorkers will have to deal with to get an iPhone, good luck. You might be better off going out of state.

OR

Waiting 24-48 hours when unlocked iPhones start popping up on ebay for $800 (which to me is a joke because in 8 months the shit won't be worth more than $200)

lol, this is the 1st time I've ever seen people line up for a cellphone
videogames yes, phones, uh uh

here's what I don't get
these assholes act like Apple didn't mention this phone MONTHS AGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean I thought about buying one in March, simply by walking into cingular signing the contract extention and handing them whatever they needed so I could just walk in & out on shipment day, why couldn't anyone else plan ahead like I would have?!?

One of Aesop's fables:

One hot summer's day a Fox was strolling through an orchard till he came to a bunch of Grapes just ripening on a vine which had been trained over a lofty branch. "Just the thing to quench my thirst," quoth he. Drawing back a few paces, he took a run and a jump, and just missed the bunch. Turning round again with a One, Two, Three, he jumped up, but with no greater success. Again and again he tried after the tempting morsel, but at last had to give it up, and walked away with his nose in the air, saying: "I am sure they are sour."

It is easy to despise what you cannot get. :)

Call me old fashioned, but I like my phone to be a phone, and my ipod to be an ipod.

Then again, if it was like 100gig or something I'd by it. But it's only 8 gig, so it'd be a downgrade just so I can make calls on it and have a shitty version of OSX (even though it is the best operating system around though)

Japan Unimpressed with iPhone

While Jobs claims the iPhone is 5 years ahead of any other cellphone in the US, it still is 5 years behind those in Japan.

But the revolution is already well underway in Japan, where cellphones are used for everything. Besides downloading music and surfing the Net, Japanese use their cellphones to navigate their way home by global positioning system, to buy movie tickets and to update personal blogs from wherever they are.

It was 3G that sparked the boom in music downloads that makes it common for phones to be used as portable digital music players here.

And it is 3G that has led the Japanese into a world where they can watch live TV on their phones and use them as a charge card to ride trains or buy milk at the corner store or take a taxi. Ticket Pia, Japan's major entertainment ticketing agency, has been selling e-mail tickets to cellphones since October 2003. The phones also can be used to conduct conference calls among as many as five people.

Another widely used 3G feature enables users to point cellphone cameras at bar codes and be directed to websites. For example, every seat in the Chiba Lotte Marines baseball stadium has a bar code, which takes a cellphone to a special home page where users can subscribe to get "inside" information and columns not available on the regular team site.

As with other Japanese baseball clubs, cellphones can be used to buy tickets. Teams have examined the possibility of installing turnstiles that would allow ticket holders to enter stadiums by swiping their cellphones across the terminal. That technology is already used at some movie theaters. And cellphones can be loaded with prepaid credit and then be swiped at terminals to allow access to Japanese trains.

I just went to the AT%T store in my town and there are like 15 people in line already.
I asked the automaton like AT&T staff if they had any idea how many iphone they are getting .......they know nothing.
I am assuming they will get 50-100 iphones from what I have been able to gather from the rumour sites.
The large apple stores are getting over a 1000 phones!
They will sell out so quick.
If I get one today I will show it to you all.

I would wait a few months - lets the bugs get worked out and the price needs to drop a little. Great Phone though - just had a full demo. The Internet on it is amazing!!! But I am going to wait a bit

But I got one...........
I will post pictures soon and maybe a video later.

Congrats,

Seems like a great thing.

I hope that they have a way of disabling the phone if it is ever stolen. Pretty common to get jacked for a nice phone/iPod here in NYC.

As a user of about 6 MS "smartphones" inc 2 on WM6, I can't wait to say "fuck windows mobile".
