This topic offers valid comments with regard to TS porn and I find myself also humbled that my name should be associated with being able to address these comments.

The bottom line is that the formulaic approach to TS porn that is based on presenting a variety of transsexuals (with new faces preferred) in vignette scenes shot in a gonzo style assured sales whilst to deviate from this format presented only the risk of consumer disinterest.

As a consequence, this lead to the major series in TS porn all following a similar format, whether it be "Rogue Adventures", "TS Prostitutes", "Transsexual Beauty Queens", "Wendy's Wild Shemales" or "Shemale Jet-Set", with even new entrants to the market such as Anabolic and Defiance Films following suit.

When I released "Brazen Shemales #1" over 3 years ago, it was a break from the mould in featuring just two established performers in just three extra-length scenes.
With it's initial sales out of the door less than half of a formulaic release and only achieving break after a year on the market, this suggested that deviating from the formula was not of benefit.
It was only in the long-term that it proved worthwhile by returning ongoing sales past the expected shelf-life as a result of becoming a cult title that broke the mould.

It was only in the beginning of this year that I chose, once again, to break the mould by releasing "Joanna Jet's Vacation", a multiple camera HD production with high production values and more than double the budget of a formulaic release.
Whilst achieving equivalent sales in the US to a formulaic title and being one of the top-selling titles in the UK for which it was rewarded with "Best Transsexual Film" at the UK porn awards, it failed to claim a comparable nomination for the AVN 2007 awards.
With TS titles which dare to break the mould failing to be recognised for being such and thereby benefiting from industry and consumer attention, it is no wonder that the major TS studios choose to pump out the same old shit over and over again.

When I see a TS gonzo title outsell a "Shemale Jet-Set" with twice the budget that comes from greater production quality and featuring "named" performers, is it any wonder that even I doubt the value of wanting to make "better" TS porn?

It is still my intention, for 2007, to release just a couple of "Shemale Jet-Set" titles in order to also produce a TS feature and an interactive DVD beyond the expected norm.
But, at the end of the day, unless industry interest and consumers' wallets return a justifiable worth, then it should offer no surprise when, in 2008, I turn to pushing out a raft of "same-as" titles derived from the lowest-cost contracted brazilian content.

well , i remember some shemale old movies (1980,1990) with stories and some really nice scenes(softcore).The girls werent beautiful like now, but the production itself i liked very much.
I usually dont buy or rent shemale dvd or porn, only some germain and of course, Italian porn movies or anything with some brain work on them.

Yeah, it's a shame when guys buy gonzo in bulk for the OTT style of shooting, as compared to good production values, with "name" performers, otherwise it's 1 scene with a "name" performer and the rest of the film featuring nothing but Brazillian girls that no-one's heard of and that's a shame.

But business is business, and money-returns is what matters to execs, so if gonzo is where the money lies, the Industry has to follow.

I have trouble watching the stuff that Joey Silvera shoots, because it's so dull, I know lots of guys love JS's movies, but I get bored with it, the same when I watch a Trans X title with all Brazillian girls.

It is good to see this thread crop up again a year later.

There have been some insightful comments made in the posts of this topic and for me, they boil down to two main points: Creativity and production quality.

As suggested in a previous post and confirmed by my experience as a producer, TS porn consumers will, in vast majority, choose their product based on price and it's conformance to the well established format of the gendre.
When producing the cheapest possible movie from using amateur Brazilian performers and cameramen returns the greatest profits, is it any wonder that virtually all TS movie producers hold little regard for creatibity and quality.

With this in mind, I once again refer to Joanna Jet's Vacation.
This title was shot on location, in HD, using multiple cameras and featuring an all-professional cast and with it's 1 TS/5 girl was a total breakaway from the typical format of the gendre.
Yet, in the US, Joanna Jet's Vacation achieved less sales than a typical Joey Silvera look-alike featuring yet more banal sex in a cheap motel room shot on less than a quarter of the budget.

As a producer, I place great value on creativity and production quality but to deliver thes values requires being of sufficient worth to the TS consumer to generate the necessary budget.

Hey Joanna, thx for participating in this thread.

First, if you have to go the low budget Brazilian route in order to make money on some or most of your discs, at least spend 30 minutes and coach the girls to say a few things in english and put an alternative english track on the DVD. I recongize the english bias in the statement above, but that's where the market is at.

Second, discounting the 1980's TS features with guys with bad mullets, I can't even think of a modern TS feature title other than Genderella, which I loved by the way. Great story, great sex. And it's already a pretty old title. Seems to me there has to be a market for TS Features. At least one or two per year. Even something with a loose plot like the late 90's Jim Holliday titles like Car Wash Angels would be better than the same old same old TS gonzo.

And finally, thanks Joanna for at least trying. So much of the industry, both regular porn and TS porn, is completely lacking in any kind of imagination. It's nice to see some push the envelope. And I have paid more for titles that are better produced. I like the multiple angles so I'll have to check out Vacation.

I had an idea for ts movies to have a plot with dialogue strong enough for it to stand alone with some of hardest core scenes removed, so that it could be aired on cable tv, such as the Playboy channel. There could be two versions made, with and without hardcore sex scenes. But the goal would be to try for a crossover audience, such as straight couples.

I watched a program about the movie “Deep Throat”. It swept America and made a lot of money. One reason was that it had a plot, which made people laugh, who might be uncomfortable with just pure sex scenes.

I don’t know if my idea is really marketable or not, but who knows. There might be a market on a place like the gay cable channels for something not hardcore. It could be a way for a ts performer to transition from just sex roles to a more personality based career.
