How dangerous is using saliva as lube when having protected anal sex?

Was a discussion today where we asked what are the risks if saliva is used in protected sex and the anal lining rips. No compromise to protection?

My answer is in this day and age why risk it? Now way way WAY back when. If someone wanted to fuck me they just bent me over and shoved it in.
