Converts who merely swap one militant position for another are usually best avoided. We did not get a lot wrong about Mark Lynas, but he got a lot wrong about something he claims to know so much about. The dreary truth, which won't set the world on fire or cause mass demonstrations in London, Paris, New York and Port au Prince, is that GMO sometimes work and sometimes do not, that they are safe in some cases, but not in others. Nuclear power may be carbon neutral and and efficient source of energy but when it goes wrong, it goes wrong in a spectacularly bad way. We can't even decide in the UK where our basic sources of energy are going to come from, asserting as this must the key role played in all this by politics rather than science.
