I have a lot of friends in nola who knew her..i didn't know her personally when I lived there..this murder sounds like it was done out of spite or by someone who knew her or had dealings with her...way to violent shooting...and to every story there are always multiple sides...I know more than a few pageant type girls or super glammy type girls who pull a lot of stunts and scams...the stage persona doesn't always show the totality of experience..

He stated he knows several girls who pull scams. While it could be a hate crime because she was trans, people get killed in brutal ways for screwing people over all the time. Not saying that she did that either since I didn't know her.

exactly...while there are hate crimes..i have known a few girls who got themselves into situations by either trying to pick pocket men or just by working the corner and the guys driving by know the girl has some money stashed somewhere on her person..and sometimes a angry girlfriend might find out that her boyfriend was having a "secondary" relationship with a transgirl..and in some of these gun toting southern states(like Louisiana) aggression can end up bad..ive have known several girls who have been shot on the stroll and about 3/4 times it wasn't that the girl was trans being the issue but about a robbery attempt..hell ive knw girls who have been killed by their jealous boyfriends who didn't like them working the streets...its tough...

It was a hate crime just like the stabbing in Hollywood on Franklin where the guy yelled out loud " I hate trannys" before stabbing the transsexual multiple times.Multiple hate crimes

Munroe in school, left, and modeling. (Photos: Courtesy of Munroe Bergdorf)
Bergdorf’s voice grew louder at age 24 once she was started modeling (and transitioning), but her ability to defend her identity was again thwarted when a stranger began stalking her; he eventually raped her. “I started experiencing posttraumatic stress disorder, flashing back to moments of extreme trauma. That really set me back. [The authorities] never found him, but eventually I started speaking about it … to anyone who I felt would understand, especially trans women of color who have experienced violence from men.”

Bergdorf notes, “The average life expectancy of a trans woman of color is 35 years, and that’s because of male violence largely. Statistically, I’ve got four years left on this earth. That statistic makes me angry, but it also makes me determined to try to be the change that I want to see and make other people feel like they can do something about it as well.”

Today she continues to spread awareness, specifically for transgender youth, often in unconventional ways — from runway appearances to speaking engagements and now on the small screen: Her new documentary, “What Makes a Woman?,” aired in May in the U.K. and has since garnered mass appeal, taking viewers along for a raw and honest ride.

. Most of her transgender friends were white. “There’s such a unique set of challenges at the intersection of black and trans issues that I felt very isolated and alone,” she says. (Major reports have shown that black transgender women face disproportionately high rates of unemployment, poverty and violence.) “My only black trans friends were through Facebook.”

Still, she would not turn back on her path. As a member of the Arkansas Transgender Equality Coalition, she began volunteering to speak publicly all over the state on trans issues and rights. “That’s what I’d been yearning for,” she says. “It felt very affirming for me and made my social transition that much easier.” She says that her politicization was as much about speaking up as a black person as a trans person. With white activists, she says, “even constructive criticism can be construed as questioning their authority. They don’t like being challenged or pushed back on.”

And then, early this year, amid the new national conservative resurgence of Trump’s election, came not one but three bills in Arkansas to try to keep trans people out of bathrooms corresponding to their gender identity. The governor called the bills unnecessary and harmful to the state, but the battle in the capitol building was still on.
