I think that law sucks. Apparently, you're ignorant, no US website wants to test the waters. Ya get it ? Better to prevent than to get the cut.

Fuck him. I mean, I know we will miss his great contributions to this board, but we will have to find a way to move forward in his absence, somehow, some way.

Wait until you see what's next. By May 25th everyone will have to sign an agreement that we collect their personal data (email address, nickname and IP address) otherwise they won't be able to continue to use the forum.
This is the European GDPR Compliance. Another piece of legislation which has good intentions - and might help many of us, but is impractical in it's application.

How can one apply to become an "unhappy-Grooby-sites-user-and-competition" request handler" at your company, Steven? 😂

I take it this just means we must formally consent to you retaining the data you already have, or is there more to it? Also, I assume you will soon be asking us to send back an electronic form or something, given 25 May is not far away.

The new laws aren't completely clear. Put quite simply, if you were in Steven's position, would you risk your business by potentially falling the wrong side of those laws? Better to be safe than end up a test case for them.

Yes it's just a consent on what we already do. We don't do anything with the information but to run a forum or a social network there is a certain amount of data that needs to be collected to be able to run it (your login name, email address and IP address are all we need here).

The irony, though i know the intent was otherwise, is that on a board like this, that is really not an insult. Some here would be happy to eat the right dick.

With all the data mining and abuse of that data, you had to know that regulation such as GDPR was only a matter of time and quite frankly is likely just the beginning. There has been chatter about similar regulation throughout the US and Canada particularly after the Cambridge Analytical fiasco. IMO, GDPR will likely serve as a model for global regulation.
