Sort answer:
1996 - 25 living/working in London between gigs at the BBC as an Ass.Floor Manager, part-time teaching and trying to get into film. Bought a PC (486) and a 28.8kb modem as I was intrigued by the internet with some money left me by my Gran (PC's were over £1000 at the time). Started surfing the news groups and finding porn, bought 'The Dummies Guide to HTML' and built some free or Geocities sites showing the best of what I had downloaded from the newsgroups, people started sending me photos to put on the free sites. Ran out of bandwidth, so put it on an Age Verification Site (AVS) and started making some income. Neil (who still works with us and is our techie whizz!) contacted me as he had a site called 'Planet Shemale' and asked me why I wasn't doing credit card sales - he showed me how (eternally grateful) and then the Commander contacted me and said he can get original content for $150 a roll of film. First site was $10 for 3 months access.

I went from living on about £250 a month - to £2000 a month overnight.
Reinvested back into new sites (went to Thailand to shoot in 1997).

When we started TEA shows and events, it was just getting confusing between 'Steven' and 'seanchai' - not least as nobody knew how to pronounce it.
It served it's purpose when we/I started and wanted to keep a separation between things as I never thought this would develop into a legitimate business for quite a while.

That's a great question.

We've just gone through a 'second wave' in 2017 of mainstream producers trying to edge in on the trans niche in the misguided belief that their are bigger revenues to make than their are, Wicked, Mindgeek (TransAngels), new Evil Angel producers and more all seem to be trying to get a slice of the pie. Much of this content is really good, because the studios produce great content. The 'first wave' of this was in the early/mid-2000's before it became less profitable to produce and it seemed every big program was opening a 'tranny' website. As they didn't have the inroads on producing it locally (it's extremely hard to get good producers, models and at a profitable price) they outsourced to pretty much the same 2-3 people shooting content in Brazil and Argentina. This led to a glut in almost identical content, and the consumer quickly tired of seeing it (it didn't help many of these sites weren't that ethical on their billing practises) and as interest waned, so the sites were closed. Apart from Damazo there is only one other producer in Brazil doing content regularly now - and none that I know of in Argentina.

Italy as far as I'm aware was mainly just Andrea Nobili - and the content looked good, but I don't think they had enough traction to get enough customers in. Funnily, enough we're about to launch a partnership site with mainly Italian content (and yes mainly S.American imports).

As I've mentioned earlier, I'd consider doing a Latin American style site but I don't think there is enough demand/income to make a site for each area and even this would be tough. Our Brazilian sites do okay, but the margins are tighter even than our N.American sites.

It changes. Some of the stuff PK Vegas produced was really special, he put a lot of work into it - and although in retrospect possibly not the greatest idea, but Jessica Foxx and Carmen Moore in their early Cowboys and Tgirl Indians looked great. Buddy Wood's storied DVD's are my fave DVD's but not necessarily scene. The recent Carrie Emberlyn solos blew me away - great shoot and gorgeous. I love watching models like Addi develop of the shoots.
Evelyn Lin's first shoot with Robert Axel was amazing. Some of the Tgirl.porn stuff is unbelievably good. Morgan Bailey with Mona Wales.


I'd have to really think about choosing one.

Your first question, I'll answer with two questions a) Do trans people have access to other jobs/professions? I don't think that's changed at the same rate that we are seeing more trans people around and
b) Your assuming that people are taking jobs as performers as they don't have other options.

We see more applicants year on year to model for us.


How come most TS porn is American, I answered above but simplest answer is that is sells better. Realistically there is very little TS porn made in the US or other places though, so it wouldn't take much to skew it elsewhere.

1. Not really. I don't see them really as being much in sync. Anyone with a passing interest in trans women and erotica would have found in online by now. I don't see mainstream cultural acceptance creating a whole new wave of people interested in seeing trans women porn.

2. They're just so hard to run. 'Back in the day' - a model could put up content and make a good site and do okay from it, but as piracy and competition moved it, it became more difficult - add to this that most girls were to incapable/lacked motivation to run their sites properly (update daily, engage the members, free cam shots, etc.) then they just became too much trouble for us to run. It's easier than ever to run your own site now under a platform like ModelCentro, ManyVids, OnlyFans etc. but there are also a lot more girls competing for the same customers. Why join a site with one girl on for $20 when you can join a site with 5+ updates a week and multiple girls for $30? Only sites that do something very different (ie; Krissy4u) or can carry a large fanbase which the model engages in (MiaMaffia.xxx) can do okay.

3. There have been many - AsianAmericanGirls.com - I love those models, but failed completely as unable to attract enough people, I think it owes us $90,000. Transexdomination - we didn't really have what it took to producer that content, it still owes us about $90,000 also. There have been more. We keep trying new things, some things stick and work well (Femout.XXX, Tgirls.porn) others not so.

Nothing that we're going to produce for the current sites. We've had a couple on GroobyGirls I think - and the reception for that type of content is very cool. Trans man porn hasn't really taken off very well and the way many expected it to a few years ago, which is a shame. Who is it's target audience?

'Groovy.com' was already taken and as I could only afford one domain name to encompass a group of sites (when we started in 1996) then I took Grooby. Domain names were about £80 then I think.
It's served us well.

We've been around 22 years, unless there was a drastic shift in the legalities or the ability to market and sell content, I should hope we've another 20 years.

Not really - it would very hard looking for job opportunities unless you were bringing something unique to the company - ie; a producer able to get models where there were no other producers.

Most people are hired B2B or from friends of friends, with a contraction of the industry there seems to be plenty of editors, webmasters, etc. available.

I think even if I did have my pick of them to date, that the girls might have something to say about wanting to date me!
I have been lucky and have some really good friends among the trans girls we've worked with over the years and being able to go for drinks or lunch with bonafide superstars is something that I'll always be grateful for. I'm a fan first and foremost - spending an hour having a drink and chat with John Stagliano at the AVN this year was a fanboy moment, as is every time I see Joey Silvera.

For dating, I used to be a bit crazier in my late 20's/early 30's when the company started but I keep a pretty low profile mostly.

I think they are two separate animals. While some cam performers can do extremely well, others can spend hours to make only a few dollars. The smartest girls, seem to work all angles - they take the guaranteed paid shoots when available (for the guaranteed cash - and as you stated, to drive their base back to cams).

It's not harder to find models, sadly, we have too many models great models and we're unable to accommodate as many of them as we'd like.

on the basis of their social media that isn't private, it always seems like they are trying to live the jet set/high profile life. plus, on the occasions where I have been able to meet the more famous girls, they have always been on the job so it is difficult to ascertain their "real" personalities. Well I appreciate the reply, Cereal. But I think the situation with t-girls is different than that with genetic girls. T-girls are a private pleasure. I can't speak for anyone else, but for myself, I live in a very conservative area - southern Utah. Not only would I never talk about my love for t-girls around here, I'd be SHOCKED beyond belief if anyone else did. It'd be a career killer here.

So sure, everyone wants someone who will love them for who they are. But if some ultra-rich guy has a totally "normal" sexual outlook and is only interested in genetic women, he can play the field indefinitely and publicly, until he finds the one he's looking for. On the other hand, that same man might be committing financial suicide if he's seen in public dating t-girls, no matter what the law says, and no matter if the majority of regular citizens think it's just fine. There's always that type of person looking to bring the other guy down for his own benefit, and the press is always looking to help.

I think you may be making an assumption because you haven't seen that much girl on girl involving both black non-trans and trans girls? I think the easier explanation is that it just doesn't get shot often because there isn't a huge call/market for it. Our research/feedback on black girl on girl (trnas or non-trans), is that it doesn't sell as well as black girls with guys.

It's a theory but I don't think it's particularly correct. I think there are many girls both trans and non-trans, adult industry and non-adult industry, who would like that ultimate prize - but it's not exclusive or why trans girls go into the adult industry. Many go into the adult industry to raise their profile for escorting (a well know 'star' can charge more than a not well known one).

They go away for various reasons, many just find that working in adult sites doesn't pay the rent and when the excitement of doing them wears off, drift elsewhere - often with partners who don't want them performing, but not necessarily rich ones.

I'm sure it does happen - but it's not the 'norm'. I think you're projecting and making some bigger assumptions based on the environment that you live in. Interesting but not overly surprising. The LDS church is quite oppressive, much moreso than any other church to which I've been exposed. Utah has the highest suicide rate among women of any state, and one of the highest runaway rates among teens, but these things are never addressed, merely brushed off as "God's will." Pretty much any choice a person makes that violates Mormon doctrine (which doesn't take much) means being ostracized by the entire community - a practice that is not only condoned, but in fact demanded by the church. No we haven't seen a drop off yet. The majority of people come to HA for the shit in the main page, and free photos. The escort review sections from what we can see were pretty small in terms of amount of people but high in activity (so a small amount of people making a lot of posts). If joining via credit card it will show Grooby if you are in N.America or UK. Rest of the world it will say Vendo Services - when you go through to join, check the join page it will have the information there.

Do I feel like I personally get recognition?
Whether I deserve it or not, I do get good recognition within the adult industry for the company and what we've created and stood for. 10+ years ago my ego would have been wanting the recognition but it's a false premise based on my own insecurities at the time. I'm someone who has been lucky enough to create a business which has provided a healthy lifestyle for myself and my family, and which I get up and enjoy going to, every single morning. I love switching on and seeing emails, new content and what's going on and maintain the same passion. I have noticed since I got into my mid-40's, I get a different (better) sort of communication with the models over-all, but I'm not sure if that's with the type of models changing to more savvy, business, geeky types with wider interests and more to talk about, than anything else.

I get my Lifetime Achievement everytime we run the TEA's and so many people come from so many places in the world - and I'm able to choose the lifetime achievement awards for others.

Yes, as a company we have involvement in that and Kristel spearheads most of that. On a personal level, I'm for equality and equal rights but I believe that takes time, and effort on both parts. Too often I see people getting upset, claiming in-equality when it's nothing of the sort. I'm more concerned with the anti-bullying/violence towards Trans as well as other issues that individuals may have.

Ok ... so when I was 28 ... you've got to be open and out, happy to pick them up at home and take them on a date to a restaurant where people might know you. You treat transwomen no different to any other date you might be on, be funny, be cool, don't expect to get laid, don't ask them about their genitals, etc. Dating apps/websites are always good. Remember they're probably more nervous than most girls if going on a date (anxiety over being clocked, or making the right impression). Be a gentleman, be a standup guy, have fun, ask questions, be open about your life, dress well, smell good and look the best you can. Be polite, don't be pushy. Enjoy and go with few expectations.

I was on vacation when this came in. A lot of girls do get sugar daddy or arrangements, I wouldn't say it was millionaires as such - but comfortable. But of course, you've got to be the sort of person who can stand to be 'kept' and many of the girls are strong individuals with their own plans and dreams that doesn't include being a kept woman.

This has been suggested countless times. It's a 'freak' show style movie at it's easiest level and I don't mean that the girl is a freak, but essentially it's creating a a head-turning moment, of people wanting to see the change, more than something sexual. It's also already been done, Kink produced a Kelly Klamour DVD where she starts of pre- and then through the story ends up post. It's not something that would hugely interest me in doing, unless the right situation with the right model came a long at the right time.
