View Full Version : Trying To Save The World

I just checked in on CNN and there was this Christiane Amanpour special regarding the spread of AIDs in Africa. Heavy subject, to be sure.

I was watching it and there's this family she's talking to and there are swarms of flies crawling all over everybody. AIDs prevention and treatment, hunger and malnutrition, education and all sorts of things are very serious problems in many parts of the world. I'm glad that many people are giving what they can to correct these problems, it's important to do.

But what about the flies?

I'm not trying to be funny or dismissive, but is anyone addressing the less obvious problems in the under developed corners of the world? Send these people some bug spray, it would be a miracle and an improvement in quality of life they probably couldn't even imagine right now. Food, medicine, eduction, clean water, of course. But also help them get rid of the damn flies and these people would be a hell of a lot happier and motivated then they are now.

Bug spray. Decent shoes. Even pornography (as long as it doesn't freak them out or insult personal beliefs, or whatever). There's all kinds of things just beyond keeping people physically alive. Give them a chance to enjoy life, or at least relieve some of the less obvious burdens.

I think the charitable organizations of the world need to expand beyond thinking "within the box". I really do.

How did this thread get bumped? I was just ranting one night about the fact that when I see swarms of flies crawling all over people, I think someone should try and help them out with that situation. Obviously there other more serious issues to be addressed, but being covered with flies pretty much sucks, I'm sure.

Condoms? Yes, of course. That was pretty much the subject of the show.

thats a long rant about flies...

i think they insert the flies digitally during editing just to make the people look more pathetic so more people donate money..

That's a really amazing theory "TheOne(plus numerical 1)".

I'm thinking of the song Holliday In Cambodia right now.

And I wonder why I use to be such a drunk. . .

The 'continent' of Africa while having many resources, does indeed, have many problems to contend with.

War, natural disaster, corrupt government, disease, and the list goes on.

You are very correct, that perhaps pest control, needs to be put in the budget, as flies, assuredly are disease carriers.

And we aren't talking about your average American fly, either.

Also, a problem in Africa (AIDS) or Asia (Avian Flu) can quickly become a problem here, can you say pandemic?.

So, yes it is in our best interest to monitor international situations closely.

what about condoms?

I will give you that one.

Condoms and properly using them is in desperate need of implementation.

Heterosexual sero-converion is the highest form of transmission there.

Particularly from prostitutes, who give it to 'johns' who won't wear rubbers for societal reasons, or basically sheer stupiity/

The husband gives it to the wife, they both die.

You have orphans running the streets in gangs and militias, commiting crimes, etc.

All because of not using a piece of latex.

I never did get an answer to this, and you're still on right now so I'm asking.

Why did you bump this thread tonight? It's three days old.

Just curious.

I didn't log off just yet, but I'm logging off now, so you can quit chasing me tonight. I find this fascination you have with me interesting.

It's a bit odd, don't ya think? All your posts tonight have been directed at me, I have no idea who you are.

Just kinda weird.

Much of the problem whit flies could bee helpt if they have access to hygien articels and by trying to keep the living areas clean.
There is many organisations working whit this problem
But its the whole time a question of whats most imprtant.
Food water medecins is always higest on the list.
Education is also real important.
And then wee have the aids problem.
This is also a big problem in east europe ex the baltic countrys.
But I dont think bugspray is a god idea..its should bee a hell lot of bugspray. Its better to attack the problem other way.
If wee get the money from what the war industri cost Im sure much of this problems should bee history in a very soon future.

These people need peace, food, medicines and clear water to enjoy life.
When you see your child dying of starvation, you logically dont give a fuck for new shoes and playboy magazine.
Obvious for them is to manage to live another day, not using a bug spray to send away the flies.

Btw, your idea was so much "Marie Antoinette" if you know what i mean.

Are you still curious why everybody bumped your topic?

Let's start with flip flops and readers digest.
Marie Antoinette?
The gap between levels of intelligence of some of the people posting sometimes seems like I'm reading an argument between two people speaking different languages.
No complaint, I have Advil on hand at all times.

I like the bug spray idea though. Although it never works on my TV.

Marie Antoinette was the queen in france under the revolution. One clever thing she say was when she heard that the people was starving and dint have enogth bread to eat... then she asked : Why didnt they eat cockies?
