Meanwhile, in the real world, the elections in Chile take place in November of this year.
The principal issues in this elections are:
Education -Chile has a student debt of epic proportions, and a student cohort that, as in the UK (excluding Scotland) wants fees abolished;
Worker's rights -one of Chile's problems is that the so-called Left that has held the Presidency for most of the period since Pinochet left politics, but have been too timid or nervous to re-instate any of the policies associated with Salvador Allende, but it does mean that worker's rights -collective bargaining to improve wages and conditions, for example- have not improved, rather in the way that the crushing of Union powers has also led to a decline in wages in the UK and the USA.
Pension reform is needed to avoid the value of pensions declining to a point where the elderly cannot survive on pensions alone.
Resolving disputes with the Mapuche and other indigenous peoples over land rights is a priority.

The problem in Chile, as with other countries, is voter apathy, with a low turn-out in the most recent local elections last October the general consensus is that the left is in disarray, and that this gives the 'Centre-Right' parties the advantage with the choice being between Alejandro Guillier and Sebastian Piņera.

Make sure you don't vote for comrade Stavros!

Comrade Stavros, who has never been to Chile but once spent a few days in Rome in 1977 with a fascinating student who these days is a doctor in Valparaiso, and once had a silly argument with a vegetarian nerd about Raoul Ruiz in which the bourgeois apologist was 'corrected', is not a candidate in the election. I am reliably informed he thinks Nikka looks rather fetching in that election appropriate dress and for that reason would receive my vote, were she running this time. Perhaps when her campaign does begin, I can help with strategy and organization while you help out with, Oh I don't know -hair and make-up?
