What is Colyer's Syndrome?

Named for reclusive brothers Homer & Langley Collyer (I misspelled the name above), it is essentially an inability to prioritize value in items (Boiled down, it refers to people who habitually collect junk, usually sub/unconciously). It's a learned psych thing and can be 'cured' to some extent, but it's tough. I picked it up from my mother who, when she died last year, had more than twenty year's worth of old catalogs and junk mail stored around her apartment. :roll:

The extreme version can be seen in the Collyers themselves whose bodies were discovered in their Harlem mansion in 1947 amidst one-hundred-thirty-six =TONS= (The number varies from 103 to 136, but it's still a lot) of junk and belongings including several pianos, bicycles, an X-ray machine, and an automobile chassis. ADD adds to this nonsense because on the occasion that I actually begin to tidy up and toss stuff out, I'll come across a magazine or game or something and lose track of the project until the next failed attempt. :x When the economy's up, I hire a maid service to send a HAZMAT team in to put things in some semblance of order and that helps quite a bit. At least I =know= what's screwed up in my head, most that go through this won't believe or accept it and go on thinking everything's fine (Think of the crazy cat lady that every community seems to have, as they are often classic cases of Collyer's).

'Sokay, I'm usually awake when I'm surfing the forums (Note that I said 'usually').

I know what you mean about the chatroom. Though it's worked whenever I tried it, my schedule is so odd that I rarely find anyone there. Even scheduled chats slip by me. Elsewhere, I've found the chat programs to be cumbersome and a trick to use (One keeps stealing the cursor away as the ad banners change and you have to retype and retype). Hev'n f'bid you should be drinking and retyping, as it never comes out the same way twice.

On bizzy nites I'll just jump from thread to thread, mostly trying to catch up. On slow nights I'll be reading a post, finding it somehow familiar, and then focus on the avatar and see that it's one I posted the day before. D'oh!
